Fudgy Chocolate Brownies

Adapted from Martha Stewart’s Baking Handbook


½ cup unsalted butter

8 ounces bittersweet chocolate chips

1 ½ cup sugar

4 large eggs

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

¾ cup all purpose flour

½ teaspoon salt


Preheat the oven to 350℉. Line an 8 inch square pan with parchment paper and coat with cooking spray. Bring a saucepan of water to a simmer and place a glass bowl on top of the saucepan. Heat the butter and chocolate in the glass bowl, stirring occasionally while they melt. Once the butter and chocolare are melted remove the bowl from the heat and let the mixture cool for 10 minutes. Stir 1 ½ cups of sugar into the chocolate mixture. Whisk the eggs into the mixture one at a time. Stir in 1 teaspoon of vanilla. Gently fold in flour and salt. Pour the batter into the pan. Bake for 40 minutes. Remove from the oven and allow to cool before cutting into squares.
