1 cup packed brown sugar

½ cup granulated sugar

½ cup shortening

½ cup butter

2 eggs

2 teaspoons vanilla

2 ½ cups all purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking soda

1 teaspoon salt

1 ½ cups m&ms

  1. Preheat oven to 350℉. In a large bowl mix together 1 cup packed brown sugar, ½ cup granulated sugar, ½ cup shortening, ½ cup butter. Use a wooden spoon to stir these ingredients together until well combined. Add 2 eggs and 2 teaspoons vanilla. Stir until well combined. Use a rubber scraper, if needed to scrape the sides of the bowl.

  2. In a medium bowl mix together 2 ½ cups all purpose flour, 1 teaspoon baking soda, 1 teaspoon salt. Stir to combine.

  3. Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, using rubber scraper to combine.

  4. Add 1 cup m&ms to the dough and gently fold them in.

  5. Use scoop to measure out cookie dough balls. Use your hands to gently form a smooth ball. Place dough on lined cookie sheet, leaving space for cookies to spread. Fill the tray with 12 cookies, 4 rows of 3 cookies. Using the extra ½ cup of m&ms, press a few m&ms into the top of the cookies.

  6. Bake 8-10 minutes, removing the cookies before they are fully baked. Let them rest 5 minutes on the cookie sheet before moving them to a cooking rack. Repeat with remaining dough. Makes 18-24 cookies.
