Cheese Straws

from What’s Cooking? A Cookbook for Kids

  • 1 ½ cups all purpose flour

  • 6 tablespoons butter, softened

  • 2 cups grated cheddar cheese

  • 1 ½ cups grated parmesan cheese

  • 1 egg

  • ¼ cup milk

  1. Heat oven to 400°. Line 2 baking sheets with parchment.

  2. In a food processor combine flour, butter and cheeses. Pulse for about 1 minute until the butter and cheeses are evenly distributed in the flour.

  3. Add egg and pulse until combined.

  4. With the food processor running, add the milk through the feed tube and blend until a dough ball forms (about 1 minute).

  5. Remove dough from food processor. Cut ball in half, and place half on a well floured work surface. Using a rolling pin, roll dough to about ⅛ inch thick and trim into a rectangle.

  6. Cut strips about ½ inch wide and 4 inches long. Twist the strips and place on baking sheet. Repeat process using all of the dough.

  7. Bake stick 8-10 minutes, until lightly browned.
